Two questions, why hijack a New York subway train and why negotiate with a subway dispatcher? Ryder (Travolta) is one pissed man and decides to remove his frustration by hijacking a subway. Walter Garber (Washington) is the unfortunate subway dispatcher on duty at the time of the hijacking. Ryder decides to befriend Walter and insists only on negotiating with him. The rest is predictable. The hijacker demands money, money doesn't come, innocent people killed, money finally comes, hijacker runs away, subway dispatcher turns hero and saves the day. The movie is very typically American from all possible angles. One cant actually put down the movie as bad but you cant give it a round of applause and nominate it for the Oscars either. Usually when it comes to robbery and hijacking, the plots are carefully planned with multiple twists. Here everything was very elementary and the planning was nothing which would actually astound you. Its as simple as taking a gun and shooting it in the air and assuming control of the entire train. Child's play.
