The sole reason to watch this movie would only be for its historical significance. The Longest Day, is based on the night when the Allied army consisting of America, Britain and France, marched into continental Europe to gain back what they had lost in the hands of the Germans. The English Channel is facing one of the worst storms ever in its history, and the Germans don't expect the Allied attack in such whether. The Germans calculations go catastrophically wrong when the Allied invasion begins when they least expected it, which cost them a lot. In spite of being made in the early days of cinema, the movie looks as if it was shot right when the war was going on; no special effects, no bloody scenes just plain, raw cinema. In order to understand the movie, you might have to recall your history a bit as the movie is not self-explanatory and simply goes with the flow. Perhaps no other war movie has been executed in a better fashion in the history of movie-making. A must watch for war-movie fans.

What happens when you try to shoot a Bollywood film in Hollywood? you get Kambakkht Ishq! Two brothers Lucky (Aftab) and Viraj (Akshay) work as stuntmen in Hollywood films. Lucky finally decides to marry Kamini (Amrita) against the wishes of Viraj and Kamini's misogamist friend Simrita (Kareena). Viraj tries to hatch plans to get Lucky to bed his newly wedded wife, who has been brain-washed by Simrita to stay away from him cause she feels men have only sex on their minds. One day when Viraj gets hurt during a shoot, he co-incidentally gets operated on by Simrita, who conveniently forgets her watch in the poor guys insides. In order to save her skin, she decides to seduce Viraj and somehow bring him to the hospital, which he comes, and dump him when its done, which she does. In the midst of all this, Viraj falls in love with her which she refuses to acknowledge. The movie tries very hard to look like a Hollywood film, by showing bikini clad girls everywhere, cheap sexual humour and appearances by famous Hollywood stars. Sylvester Stallone acts as the damsels bodyguards by taking on a group of thugs single-handily and Denise Richards seems to fall all over Akshay at every possible moment. A highly avoidable movie, not even worth one watch.

Thomas Button's wife gives birth to a baby boy while sacrificing her life. The child is born with a host of abnormalities. Wrinkled skin, arthritis, blood pressure, blurred vision, all signs of old age. The doctors don't think the child would survive for more than a day, and Mr Button thinking the child was the devil himself, left him at the doorstep of Dorothy Baker (Chambers) who runs an old age home. Benjamin (Pitt) unlike other people became younger day by day instead of growing older. He meets the love of his life Daisy (Blanchett) and goes on to marry her. The story simply narrates the life of Benjamin. It reflects on how a person with any form of abnormality cannot live a normal life and raise a normal family. The movies backdrop is Daisy lying on her deathbed and narrating the truth about her father to her daughter Caroline (Ormond) by making her read her fathers diary. The movie has a very sensitive and emotional touch to it and makes it a wonderful watch. One however needs patience and peace to watch the movie in one go.

Genre: Science-fiction/Action/Adventure
Starring: Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox, Ramon Rodriguez
The story of the movie doesn't quite continue from where it left in the previous movie. The characters remain but you don't need to watch the earlier movie to make head or tale of what is going on. It is revealed that thousand of years ago the transformers used to destroy various stars and source the energy for themselves. However they agreed that any solar system having life was to remain unharmed. One of the 'Primes', The Fallen broke this pact by installing a device on earth which could destroy the sun. The other Primes sacrificed themselves by protecting the key of matrix which could power this weapon. On present day, Sam (Lebeouf) discovers a piece of the destroyed AllSpark still stuck to his clothing that he wore during the previous battle. Upon touching the cube, the power of the cube gets transferred to his brain which shows him flashes of some secret codes and maps which apparently leads to the location of the Key of Matrix. The Decepticons revive Megatron and attack earth with a larger force in order to obtain the key of matrix and destroy the sun. The Autobots with Sam, Mikaela (Fox) and Leo (Rodriguez) have a task to complete. Apart from the story, the movie is not very different from its predecessor. All the action consists of metal banging, scratching, crashing and whacking. The only problem is that all the fights were shown from a close up angle and its a big strain to the eye watching gigantic metal beasts battling each other in fast motion and it becomes a little difficult to identify one from the other. Special effects and outlandish is the only thing the movie is worth watching for,

Genre: Action/Crime
Starring: Jason Statham, Alessandro Gassman, Hunter Clary
Frank Martin (Statham) continues his same profession as the earlier movie, transporting humans or goods and no questions asked. His current job requires him to fetch young Jack Billings (Clary) from school and drop him home. Very simple, until the time when Jack gets kidnapped by Gianni Chellini (Gassman) to extort money from his rich father, else he will unleash a dangerous virus that could kill anyone who breathes it in. Frank feels its his responsibility to get the 'goods' back since it was lost under his responsibility. The rest is typical Transporter action with insane, unbelievable and larger than life stunts. Once you've seen the first part, the second part doesn't seem very different with similar stunts, effects and the same old Jason. But its still a joy to watch him beat up twenty guys brandishing weapons single-handily.

Genre: Drama/Romance/Sport
Starring: Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Jamie Foxx
When ace American Football quarterback of the Miami Sharks, Cap Rooney (Quaid) gets injured, amateur Willie Beamen (Foxx) is called in as a replacement. The Sharks losing streak needs to be abolished and team owner and manager Christina Pagniacci (Diaz) is pressurising her coach Tony D'Amato (Pacino) to do something about it. When Beamen starts a new trend of throwing up on the field before blitzing his team to victory, D'Amato finds a rising star. However, things don't go all that easily when Beamen's play strategies although bringing them victory, is not approved of by the coach or the players. What ensues are fights, arguments, disagreements and team politics which threatens to divide the team. The movie has a nice storyline but dosen't get you goose-bumps or the rush of adrenaline that usually sports movies give. Instead it moves at its own leisurely pace trying to encompass unnecessary and trivial mini-stories.

Rob (Cusack) is an ex-DJ who now runs a record store along with his friends Barry (Black) and Dick (Luiso). The movie revolves more on Rob's love life and his top 5 breakups and how his recent breakup just manages to feature in the top 5 list. What goes on is break-up philosophy courtesy Rob talking to the camera for more than 75% of the movies duration and how in the end he gets his ex-girlfriend back and lives happily ever after. This movie is not worth another sentence, I don't feel like wasting precious blog space.

The movie continues from where it left in part I. Ace footballer, Santiago Munez (Becker) leaves Newcastle United and becomes a part of the famed Real Madrid team along with his best friend Gavin Harris (Nivola). His wife Roz (Friel) do sent like the idea that she would have to stay in England while he stays in Spain. Munez is a changed man with all the fame and fortune in the world. His life becomes like that of a typical footballer overloaded with money. He finally does face a serious set back when he gets jailed for beating a photographer. Realisation hits him and he vows to become a changed man. The movie is no different from the earlier one, it again has a very predictable story of a simple boy transforming into an attitude filled snob and finally gets some senses and becomes himself again. Once again the action packed football games are a good watch and probably that's the only reason for one to watch the movie. The movie ends with a 'to be continued' tag, and I admit, I will be waiting for it.

Based on a true story, Dr. Jefferey Wigand (Crowe) is a scientist working at a tobacco company, Brown & Williamson. Lowell Bergman is the producer of a TV programme '60 Minutes' and who wants to do a show on the injurious nature of tobacco. When Wigand gets fired from his company, Bergman approaches him to be a source for his TV show. Wigand, however is bound by a confidentiality agreement wherein he is not allowed to divulge vital information of the company to any outsider. To get around this agreement, Wigand acts as a witness in a court of law which would then allow him to state whatever he wishes to on Lowell's show. Lowell's company, CBS News orders him to pull off the show due to the possibility of facing a heavy law suit. Lowell is compromised and Bergman has nowhere to go. A good and well executed story and brilliant acting by Crowe and Pacino. The movie however, would have been better had there been a bit more drama and thrills to contain the suspense.

A true-life incident of mass murders taking place in San Fransisco in the 1970's. The press and police are stunned when the killer, calling himself 'The Zodiac', sends out cryptic messages and leaves absolutely no trail behind. Cartoonist for the San Fransisco Chronicle, Robert Graysmith, (Gyenhall) becomes obsessed with the case and along with his fellow journalist Paul Avery, (Downing) they together get cracking at the case. Murders keep taking and Inspector David Toschi (Ruffalo) remains puzzled. Each suspect that is apprehended proves one way or the other that he is not the Zodiac. Time passes and no lead uncovers. Graysmith decides to use the information he has collected to publish a book on the killings (the movie apparently is based on this very book). It is said that the murderer is still at large and no real suspect has been identified. The movie is very gripping and highly dramatic. Can be classified as one of the best crime movies ever made.

Genre: Crime/Action/ Drama
Starring: George Clooney, Jeffrey Wright, Matt Damon, Alexander Siddig
Four things in this world exist in tandem with each other. If any one is spoken of, the others follow. Oil, Middle-East, USA and terrorism. The movie uses the same backdrop and tells four different stories, with one ultimate end. The Lebonese foregin minister, Prince Nasir, (Siddig) has a dream of improving his countries economy and removing control that US has over them. He gives a Chinese company rights to dig oil in his country, which deeply angers various American corporations. Meanwhile, an American oil company Connex, merges with a smaller company Killen which has drilling rights in Kazakhsthan. The American Department of Justice cries foul and suspects bribery. Lawyer Bennett Holiday (Wright) is assigned the task in alleviating any allegations of corruption. CIA agent Robert Barnes (Clooney) knows the Middle-East like the back of his hand. Prince Nasir on learning that he may not be selected as heir to the throne, plans a military coup. The CIA want to prevent this and assign Barnes with the task of taking him out. The task fails after his hit man double-crosses him and instead gets down to finding out who was behind it. The CIA make Barnes their scapegoat to save their skin and take on the task of assassinating the Prince themselves. Bryan Woodman (Damon) is an energy analyst who loses his son in the Emir's party. Prince Nasir decides to invest $75 million in his company as a form of compensation. Slowly and steadily Woodman becomes his economic advisor. A Pakistani worker gets laid off from an oil company. He gets brainwashed by Islamic Jehads into becoming a terrorist and leads a terrorist attack. The story is like a huge jigsaw puzzle with all four story parts strewn across the entire movie. You need to be at peace, need a fresh mind and subtitles to make head or tail of this movie

An illegal Mexican immingrant Santiago Munez (Becker) living in LA, harbours the dream of becoming a football star. His dream comes true when ex-Newcastle player Glen Foy (Dillaine) spots him playing in a park and gives him a chance to try out for Newcastle United. His family is delighted, all except his father who feels his responsibility should lie in working with the family. Against his fathers will, he flies off to England to make his dream come true. Like all sports movies there is a lot of adrenaline and excitement and the feel of victory in the end is truly rejuvenating. The story however is nothing new, an old and tried and tested formula typically used in sports movies. Its only the feel and the emotions that the movie brings out that makes it so good.
