Genre: Crime/Drama/Romance/Action/Thriller/Biography/History
Starring: Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard
In the 1930's, crime in America was an all-time high. Chicago boasted of housing the maximum number of criminals in the entire country. Public Enemy No.1, John Dillinger (Depp) and his gang went around robbing banks and soon became the most sought after criminals. He meets and falls in love with Billie Frechette (Cotillard) and promises to take her away from his crime world and stay that way for good. FBI Agent Melvin Purvis (Bale) is appointed to hunt down John Dillinger, dead or alive. The rest of the story is mostly a cop-criminal wild goose chase and doesn't throw up anything interesting. The Untouchables was another movie based on a criminal from the same era, which does the job far better than this one. The movie is long, gets slow and monotonous and Depp is the only saving grace throughout. That said, the movie isn't all that bad and shines out in parts that it has to. Interesting but a wee bit long.
Thumbs up: Johnny Depp
Thumbs down: A bit long and slow at times
Rating: 6.3/10
